Pumpkins, spice and everything nice!

Meet 6 D

Ben recently brought to my attention that after completing this school year, I will have taught every single age group:
I have taught high school (in Watts, CA), preschool (Garden Grove, CA), elementary school (Teguz, HN) and now middle school. Pretty cool to realize that! I can honestly say I have enjoyed every single one (my dislike of high school had nothing to do with the age group, but rather with the location), I guess all that's left for me to try is teaching college, now lets just hope the State of California gets their stuff together and allows young competent professionals, such as myself, to get a job.

I have not been very good this year about taking pictures of my students, but I finally had the chance to do so a few weeks ago when we celebrated "Fiesta Catracha" a day to celebrate Honduras.

I am also posying some pictures of my 6th graders and the atoms they built using edible items . Enjoy!

World Without an End

Every now and again, I come back to this song. And I just LOVE it!!
It is one of those things that is just soooo deep I can't even really comprehend, but then again who can really comprehend the love of Christ !

I leave you with the lyrics ( maybe I'll figure out how to post the video)

For all the deepest thought compiled, philosophy
to laws of physics,
no one's ever heard or seen,
a more beautiful thing,
than this love that saved us.

Chorus:
In the soundless awe and wonder,
words fall short to hope again.
How beautiful,
how vast your love is,
new forever,
world without an end.

The very spark that burns the stars,
drew near to me today,
the God of everything that is,

whispered in my ear that His love is boundless.

I want to comprehend this.

FRIDAY, FRIDAY, EVERYBODY GETS DOWN ON FRIDAY! (as sung by Rebecca Black)

Ben and I excited that it is FRIDAY!!!!. (above)
Weeks seem to be flying by. Days go by somewhat slow, but before I know it it is Friday again! Sometimes, that's a good feeling. Next week we work on Monday and Tuesday but then we get 3 days off due to Honduran Independence Day, we will be heading down to La Libertad, El Salvador to spend 3 days relaxing at the beach ( I am really hoping those 3 days just go by in slow-motion :)

Giga Almendra

It's funny how by this time last year I had already taken hundreds of pictures of our time in Honduras. So far I have taken one picture, the one you see below.

Ben eating a Giga Almendra, (our favorite ice cream bar in Honduras. Only costs 90 U.S. cents!) while talking to Katie.

I guess the newness of this experience has worn off. Being here is no longer new, but rather normal and very much a routine. Sure, unexpected things still happen here in Tegucigalpa, I guess we are just not shocked or surprised by them anymore. Being in a WAY better apartment also helps a ton, we LOVE our new place. It is currently raining, and Ben just brought up to my attention that at our old apartment even the lightest rain sounded like a storm, due to our tin roof and styrofoam ceiling. Here, in Palma Real (the name of the gated community where we live), the rain is pretty much inaudible.

Abby lives one street away, we have gone on two walks together, but I have been rather lazy lately and have preferred to take a nap after school instead of getting up and moving. The plan this year is for us to go swimming everyday, but we are waiting for our car in order for that to happen, which should be any day now!! Having a car will change our lives here and we cannot wait!

PREGNANCY UPDATE:

-We found a gynecologist at the Honduras Medical Center. He is a sweet old man who has delivered thousands of babies. So I feel I am in good hands.

-He said I am only allowed to gain 12 pounds TOTAL! haha (we'll see how that goes)

-Thankfully I have not felt super sick nor thrown up! I am just exhausted all day long, and I take a nap as soon as I come home from school.

Year 2 in Tegus

Summer 2011 was definitely great and eventful! Our time in California was exactly what we needed in order to be recharged for year two in Tegucigalpa. By the end of summer I was looking forward to being back and ready to start the new school year. ( I will be pretty ready for a break at the end of this week, though) but for now school is going great.
My students this year are pretty great, I think it's gonna be another good year, as far as students go. It is also great being reunited with the Potter's and the Vinland's, they sure make being away from home bearable and we are truly blessed by their friendship.
I leave you with some snapshots of my amazing summer and promise to post some pictures soon!

Home Improvement

During our time in California we made multiple Target and WalMart runs to pick up items that would make our apartment in Tegucigalpa a little homier. So we purchased items like: a table cloth, Lawry's seasoning salt, two 3-lbs. jars of Skippy, 2 large jars of Nutella... and you get the idea. These are all items that can be found in Honduras but are usually a lot more money than they are in the U.S.
I bought the cutest table cloth at Target and I absolutely love what it has done to our apartment!

I was also having a serious problem with my jewelry getting all tangled up; I was keeping all my necklaces, bracelets, and earrings in the same cosmetic bag, this was resulting in me having to spend an extra 2-3 minutes everyday digging in there, finding the right piece for the day and then proceeding to untangle it. Unfortunately I was not able to bring my jewelry chest from home (that would have just been ridiculous). I also am not about to spend 1,000 lempiras on a chest here. So this is what I came up with, I know it's ghetto but it gets the job done :)

On a different note, after rooming with Katie and Aaron for 2 weeks and seeing the way Katie cooks I was inspired!
Since being back I have been on a role!!!!! Hawaiian cheeseburgers, Brazilian Coconut Chicken, Classic Waffles, Chinese chicken salad, and Veggie Stir-Fry over a bed of coconut rice!

Home

Well, we are back from a wonderful time in California. We spent time with family and friends and it couldn't have been any sweeter. Leaving was sad, but both Ben and I were excited to come back to what is temporarily our home. Thank you everyone back "home" for spending time with us, it really refreshed us and gave us the boost that we needed to make the best of these next 6 months in Honduras. We are super excited for our visitors in 2011 : Trainor in February; and Paul, Doris and Abby Camp in April.
